This trial explores whether adopting and training a dog can assist military veterans experiencing posttraumatic stress symptoms. The researchers aim to determine if this program can reduce stress, enhance mental health, and positively influence brain function and chemistry. Participants will engage in eight training sessions with a dog over ten weeks. Veterans who have reported posttraumatic stress symptoms and are approved to adopt a shelter dog in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, may be suitable candidates for this study. As an unphased trial, this study provides veterans with a unique opportunity to explore innovative methods for improving mental health and well-being.
