What is the purpose of this trial?

This research is being done to better understand opportunistic infections and cancer in transplant recipients with HIV who receive livers from a donor with HIV compared to livers from donors without HIV.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for people living with HIV who need a liver transplant. Participants must be eligible to receive a liver and have HIV, but other specific inclusion or exclusion criteria are not listed here.

Inclusion Criteria

My HIV is well controlled with a recent viral load under 50 copies/mL.
I meet the requirements for a liver or liver-kidney transplant.
I am able to understand the study and give my consent to participate.

Exclusion Criteria

I have had PML, long-term cryptosporidiosis, or primary CNS lymphoma.
Participant is pregnant or breastfeeding
Past or current medical problems or findings that may pose additional risks, interfere with compliance, or impact data quality or interpretation as judged by the investigator

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Transplantation

Participants undergo liver transplantation from donors with or without HIV

Immediate
1 visit (in-person)

Post-Transplant Monitoring

Participants are monitored for opportunistic infections, cancer, and other outcomes

6 months to 4 years
Regular visits (frequency not specified)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for long-term outcomes and survival

Up to 4 years

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Trial Overview

The study compares outcomes in people with HIV who get a liver from an HIV-positive donor versus those who get one from an HIV-negative donor. Researchers will look at infections, cancer risk, and long-term health after the transplant.
