What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests whether an essential amino acid supplement, Essential Amino Acid+ (EAA+), can improve health markers such as metabolism and body composition in active adult women. Researchers compare the supplement to whey protein and a placebo to assess their effects during and after intense exercise. Ideal participants are healthy, active women who exercise regularly and are willing to follow specific guidelines, such as avoiding caffeine and alcohol before testing. As an unphased trial, this study allows participants to contribute to groundbreaking research that could enhance fitness and health outcomes.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that essential amino acid supplements, like the one in this trial, are generally safe for most people. Studies indicate that using these supplements for up to three months does not harm kidney function. Safety information suggests that these supplements are not dangerous and do not contain harmful substances at normal levels.

Some individuals might experience mild side effects, such as an upset stomach, if they take excessive amounts. Overall, essential amino acid supplements are well-tolerated and do not pose significant health risks when used as directed.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial's treatments?

Essential Amino Acid+ (EAA+) is unique because it combines essential amino acids with creatine, magnesium, and electrolytes, offering a comprehensive nutritional boost in one daily dose. Unlike standard protein supplements like whey protein isolate, which focus mainly on protein intake, EAA+ provides a broader range of nutrients that might enhance muscle function and recovery more effectively. Researchers are excited about EAA+ because it could potentially offer a more holistic approach to nutrition, benefiting overall health and fitness in ways traditional protein supplements may not.

What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective?

Studies have shown that essential amino acid (EAA) supplements can increase muscle mass and improve fitness when combined with exercise. For example, one study found that a 12-week resistance exercise program with EAA supplements led to more muscle growth than exercise alone. Another study demonstrated that EAAs can help the body use energy more efficiently and maintain muscle. Additionally, EAAs improve how the body uses protein and energy without affecting appetite, making them a popular choice for those looking to enhance fitness and body shape. This trial will compare the effects of Essential Amino Acids+ with Whey Protein Isolate and a placebo. This evidence suggests that EAA supplements may be effective for active women seeking to enhance their health and fitness.678910

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Acute Crossover Phase

Participants complete three randomized laboratory visits consuming EAA+, whey protein isolate, or placebo before HIIT sessions

3 visits
3 visits (in-person)

Chronic Parallel-Group Phase

Participants consume EAA+ or placebo daily for three weeks with twice-weekly supervised HIIT sessions

3 weeks

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Interventions

  • Essential Amino Acid+ (EAA+)

Trial Overview

The study tests whether an essential amino acid supplement (EAA+) taken before high-intensity interval training (HIIT) affects metabolism, body composition, and other health markers compared to whey protein, placebo, or no exercise. The trial has both short-term and 3-week phases.
