What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores whether a 7-week Lifestyle Medicine program can be easily implemented and help reduce headache symptoms in teenagers. Participants will join virtual group sessions that focus on lifestyle changes such as diet and sleep, setting personal goals each week. Teens with frequent migraines for over four months who are patients at specific MaineHealth clinics might be suitable candidates. The trial aims to determine if this approach can effectively manage headaches. As an unphased trial, it offers participants a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research that could enhance headache management strategies.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if you have increased your headache medication in the 6 weeks before the trial starts, you may not be eligible to participate.

What prior data suggests that this Lifestyle Medicine intervention is safe for adolescents with headaches?

Research has shown that Lifestyle Medicine treatments are generally safe and manageable. One study on group medical visits found that they help people improve their lifestyle habits without causing harm. These visits support healthy changes in areas like diet and sleep, which are important for managing conditions such as headaches.

No specific reports of negative effects from Lifestyle Medicine group visits exist. Instead, these treatments aim to enhance overall well-being and quality of life. This trial is in the "Not Applicable" phase, focusing on testing the program's practicality rather than its safety. However, Lifestyle Medicine is widely recognized as a safe and non-invasive approach to health care.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Unlike typical treatments for headaches, which often involve medications like pain relievers or anti-migraine drugs, the Lifestyle Medicine Group Medical Visits approach is unique because it focuses on holistic lifestyle changes. This treatment emphasizes modifications in diet, physical activity, stress management, and sleep to address headaches. Researchers are excited about this method because it targets the root causes of headaches rather than just alleviating symptoms, potentially offering a long-term solution without the side effects associated with medication. Additionally, the group medical visits provide a supportive community environment, which can enhance adherence to lifestyle changes and improve outcomes.

What evidence suggests that this Lifestyle Medicine intervention is effective for headaches?

Studies have shown that changing certain habits can help reduce headache symptoms, especially migraines. Research indicates that better sleep and stress management are important, with 78.1% of people experiencing improved sleep and 68.7% feeling less stressed. Additionally, several studies have linked a low-fat diet to less severe migraines. Overall, focusing on lifestyle factors like diet, sleep, and stress can greatly aid in managing headaches. This trial will evaluate the effectiveness of a Lifestyle Medicine approach, which could benefit teenagers dealing with headaches.14678
