What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to test an online learning program, the TeKnO T1D curriculum, designed to enhance school nurses' knowledge and confidence in managing diabetes technology. The program focuses on supporting those who care for children with type 1 diabetes using devices like insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitors (CGM). School nurses in Pennsylvania who actively manage at least one student with type 1 diabetes, aged 14 years or younger and using a diabetes device, may be a good fit. Parents of children with type 1 diabetes who meet these criteria might also have a role in the trial. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative educational solutions for diabetes care.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for this trial?

The trial does not specify whether participants need to stop taking their current medications.

What prior data suggests that this e-Learning application is safe for school nurses?

Past studies have evaluated the TeKnO T1D program for its educational effectiveness, not its safety. Research shows it effectively helps people learn about diabetes technology, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). However, specific safety data for this online learning program is not available. As an educational tool, not a medicine or medical device, typical safety concerns like side effects do not apply. Participants in those studies found the program enjoyable and helpful, indicating it is well-received in an educational setting.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the TeKnO T1D curriculum because it offers a fresh approach to managing Type 1 Diabetes through education rather than medication. Unlike traditional treatments that primarily focus on insulin therapy and blood sugar monitoring, this e-Learning curriculum aims to empower patients by enhancing their understanding of the condition. By providing a comprehensive, accessible educational platform, the TeKnO T1D curriculum seeks to optimize technology knowledge, potentially leading to better self-management and improved quality of life for those with Type 1 Diabetes.

What evidence suggests that the TeKnO T1D curriculum is effective for improving diabetes device knowledge and confidence in school nurses?

Research shows that the TeKnO T1D program, which participants in this trial will receive, helps people learn about diabetes technology, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). Studies have found that this program provides an enjoyable and effective way for endocrinology trainees to learn how to use these devices. Early results suggest that participants enjoy and benefit from the program. Consequently, school nurses might also find this approach useful for better supporting students with Type 1 Diabetes.12567
