      SARS-CoV-2 CTLS for COVID-19

      The 2019 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is a global pandemic secondary to a novel coronavirus - SARS-CoV-2. The reported case-fatality ratio for SARS-CoV-2 in the United States is 1.8% with a current death toll of \>300,000 and climbing.4 There is no accepted standard of care or FDA approved therapies for treatment of COVID-19. Virus specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) have become an important part of the treatment landscape for viral reactivation post hematopoietic and solid organ transplantation. Donor derived CTLs have been shown to be safe and effective against a variety of viruses including CMV, EBV, BK and adenovirus. We hypothesize that SARS-CoV-2 specific CTLs generated from a previously infected family donor will be safe and effective for treatment of COVID-19 in family members with mild to moderate disease.

      Low-Dose Radiotherapy for COVID-19 Pneumonia

      Columbus, Ohio
      Low doses of radiation in the form of chest x-rays has been in the past to treat people with pneumonia. This treatment was thought to reduce inflammation and was found to be effective without side effects. However, it was an expensive treatment and was eventually replaced with less expensive treatment options like penicillin. The COVID-19 virus has emerged recently, causing high rates of pneumonia in people. The authors believe that giving a small dose of radiation to the lungs may reduce inflammation and neutralize the pneumonia caused by COVID-19. For this study, the x-ray given is called radiation therapy. Radiation therapy uses high-energy X-ray beams from a large machine to target the lungs and reduce inflammation. Usually, it is given at much higher doses to treat cancers. The purpose of this study is to find out if adding a single treatment of low-dose x-rays to the lungs might reduce the amount of inflammation in the lungs from COVID-19 infection, which could reduce the need for a ventilator or breathing tube.

      Covid-19 is an additional stressor Black women have to deal with that may interfere with hypertension self-care management. Social connectedness is a source of resilience for Black women to promote mental and physical health. Unfortunately, in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing is a challenge further isolating Black women from their networks. How is social connectedness to manage stress and emotional well-being in a social-distancing society for Black women with hypertension? The research team proposed a synchronous web-based version of Enhanced Co-Created Health Education InterventioN (eCo-CHIN) that build the success and best practices derived from the original intervention. A Covid-19 session will be included as a way of helping Black women to maintain resilience and self-care during stressful times. The eCo-CHIN intervention is innovative and timely because the research team are using a synchronous platform preparing Black women on how to deal with Covid-19 while taking care of self. The primary investigator for this pilot study (Dr. Wright) is a Black Early Stage Investigator and former KL2 (career development) awardee. The interdisciplinary research team has the expertise and resources to deliver this Enhanced Co-CHIN intervention.

      The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety, extent of the side effects, and immune responses of the study vaccine (called variant-adapted BNT162b2 RNA-based vaccine) in healthy children. Substudy A: * This study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of BNT162b2 (Omi XBB.1.5) given as a single 30 µg dose, * in people who are 12 years of age and older, * who previously received at least 3 doses of a US-authorized mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, with the most recent dose being an Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent vaccine received at least 150 days before the study vaccination (Visit 1). * The study is about 6 months long for each participant. * Participants will have at least 5 visits to the clinic. * At each clinic visit a blood sample will be taken. * At least 1 nasal swab will taken. Substudy B: * This study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of BNT162b2 (Omi XBB.1.5) given as a single 30 µg dose, * in people who are 12 years of age and older, * who are COVID-19 vaccine-naïve * who have had any positive SARS-CoV-2 test result \>28 days before study vaccine administration. * The study is about 6 months long for each participant. * Participants will have at least 5 visits to the clinic. * At each clinic visit a blood sample will be taken. * At least 1 nasal swab will taken.       Molnupiravir for COVID-19

      Beavercreek, Ohio
      Researchers are looking for other ways to prevent severe illness from COVID-19. COVID-19 is a virus that most often causes mild flu or cold-like symptoms. However, people with certain health conditions or other factors have a high risk (chance) of getting severely ill from COVID-19, which can require a hospital stay or lead to death. Some people who are high risk for severe illness may be unable to take certain treatments for COVID-19 because they are not available to them, or they take other medicines that may react with a treatment and cause an unwanted effect. Molnupiravir (MK-4482) is a study medicine designed to stop the COVID-19 virus from copying itself in the body (multiplying). The goal of this study is to learn if molnupiravir prevents severe illness from COVID-19 more than placebo in people who are high risk.

      Study VBT00002 is planned to be a Phase 1/2, randomized, modified double-blind, active-controlled, multi-center study to be conducted in approximately 980 adults aged 50 years and older in the United States. The purpose of the study is to assess the safety and immunogenicity of recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV) + adjuvanted recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (rC19) vaccine comprised of RIV combined with different recombinant Spike (rS) antigen levels of rC19 compared to RIV alone, rC19 (dose 1) alone, and RIV and rC19 (dose 1) (coadministered in opposite arms).       Sleep Treatments for Long COVID Syndrome

      The platform protocol is designed to be flexible so that it is suitable for a range of study settings and intervention types. Therefore, the platform protocol provides a general protocol structure that can be shared by multiple interventions and allows comparative analysis across the interventions. For example, objectives, measures, and endpoints are generalized in the platform protocol, but intervention-specific features are detailed in separate appendices.       This Phase 1 clinical trial will evaluate the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of PepGNP-COVID19, a synthetic nanoparticle-based, T cell-priming peptide vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, when administered as a booster dose in healthy adults. PepGNP-COVID19 is designed to induce broad and durable T cell-mediated immune responses by delivering conserved SARS-CoV-2 peptides covalently bound to carbohydrate-coated gold nanoparticles, with the goal of enhancing tissue-resident cytotoxic T lymphocytes in the respiratory tract and reducing the need for frequent antigen updates.       COMIRNATY Vaccine Long-Term Effects for Myocarditis

      The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety and effects of the study vaccine (called COMIRNATY) for the potential prevention of COVID-19. This study is seeking participants who: 1. Are age \<21 years. 2. Have presentation to participating medical center with evaluation in Emergency Room and/or hospitalization. 3. Received either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or booster dose(s) of COMIRNATY within 7 days of symptom onset. 4. Meet criteria of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention case definition of probable or confirmed myocarditis/pericarditis 5. Are capable of giving signed informed consent/assent (by parents/legal guardians of minors and/or patients), which includes compliance with the requirements and restrictions listed in the Informed Consent/Assent Document and in this protocol OR meets criteria for waiver of consent. This study will examine the potential long-term effects associated with myocarditis/pericarditis following vaccination with COMIRNATY. The association of myocarditis/pericarditis in participants who received the study vaccine (COMIRNATY) compared with those associated with COVID-19 will also be examined. This will help us determine if COMIRNATY is safe and effective, and if there is a myocarditis/pericarditis association that should be noted. Participants will take part in this study for up to 5 years. During this time, they will receive complete cardiac imaging tests, and have follow up visits per guidance stated in the study protocol.

      What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

      The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

      Do I need to be insured to participate in a Covid medical study?
