What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This is a study to look at the effect on breathing of various ways to package a person in a rescue litter. We will measure lung function in a litter, lying down, lying down in a vacuum mattress, one the side in a vaccum mattress, and vertical in a vacuum mattress.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults aged 18 to 65 who weigh between 130 and 300 pounds and have a waist size of 32 to 42 inches. It is intended for people without serious health issues that would prevent safe participation.

Inclusion Criteria

I am between 18 and 65 years old.
Participants must weigh between 130 and 300 pounds
My waist size is between 32 and 42 inches.

Exclusion Criteria

Weight greater than 300 pounds or less than 130 pounds
Pregnancy
I have a known heart condition or heart murmur.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

Baseline Measurement

Participants undergo baseline sitting pulse oximetry and forced vital capacity (FVC) and 1-second forced expiratory volume (FEV1) measurements

1 visit (in-person)

Experimental Procedure

Participants are secured in various positions using a vacuum mattress and litter to measure pulmonary function in different configurations

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for any immediate effects post-experiment

Trial Overview
