What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The primary objective of this study is to examine the effects of a high-protein diet (HP) paired with resistance training (RT) compared with a HP diet alone, on skeletal muscle mass (SMM) volume of the (a) quadriceps and (b) rhomboids, and upper and lower body muscle strength in adults recently prescribed tirzepatide. The secondary objectives of this study are to compare changes in resting energy expenditure (REE), adaptive thermogenesis (AT), and body adiposity (SFV, VAT, and intramuscular FF) in the quadriceps and rhomboid muscles) between the high-protein diet with RT and the high-protein diet arms at 6 months.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults who have recently started taking tirzepatide (a medication for weight loss or diabetes) and want to improve muscle mass and strength. Participants should be able to follow a high-protein diet, with or without resistance training.

Inclusion Criteria

I have not lost more than 3% of my weight since starting or before starting tirzepatide.
Willing and able to receive high-protein diet counseling and attempt ~2.5 g/kg FFM/day protein
BMI 27.0-37.0 kg/m² at screening

Exclusion Criteria

Serious medical or psychiatric conditions impairing safety or adherence
I do not live near NYC or cannot travel there for study visits.
Concurrent enrollment in another weight management intervention

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Interventions

  • High protein diet
  • Resistance Training (RT) Programs

Trial Overview

The study compares two groups: one follows a high-protein diet plus resistance training, while the other follows only the high-protein diet. The main goal is to see which approach better improves muscle size and strength over six months.
