What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests an online program designed to assist couples where one or both partners are recovering from substance misuse. The program aims to strengthen relationships and improve personal well-being through approximately 8 hours of digital content and support calls. Couples will complete surveys before and after the program and receive $200 per couple for participating. Suitable candidates for this trial include couples who have been together for over 6 months, are willing to participate, and have at least one partner in treatment or recovery. Participants need a reliable internet connection to join. As an unphased trial, this study offers couples a unique opportunity to enhance their relationship and personal growth while contributing to valuable research.

Do I need to stop my current medications to join the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems focused on relationship support rather than medication changes.

What prior data suggests that this online couple intervention is safe?

Research has shown that online programs for couples can be safe and effective. In one study, seven out of ten couples completed the program and reported high satisfaction, indicating that most participants found it helpful and had a positive experience. Another study found that a similar online program reduced substance use over three months, suggesting it might support recovery. These results indicate the treatment is well-received, with no major negative effects reported. Overall, the online couple program appears to be a safe choice for those seeking to improve their relationship while addressing substance issues.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Online Couple Intervention for drug addiction because it offers a unique approach by engaging both partners in the recovery process through a digital platform. Unlike traditional treatment options that often focus solely on the individual struggling with addiction, this intervention involves couples in an 8-hour online program complemented by personalized support through six 20-minute calls with a project coach. This method not only promotes a supportive environment but also enhances communication and problem-solving skills, which are crucial for long-term recovery success.

What evidence suggests that this online couple intervention is effective for drug addiction recovery?

Research has shown that the Online Couple Intervention improves both relationships and personal well-being. In one study, couples who joined the program experienced significant improvements in their relationships and individual health. The program proved especially beneficial for couples where one or both partners are recovering from substance misuse. A small study involving individuals in treatment for alcohol and other drugs also found the program helpful. These findings suggest that the program can support couples dealing with substance issues by strengthening their relationships and personal health.26789
