What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The goal of the study is to understand how well yogic breathing exercise and meditation improves breathing, fatigue, emotional well-being and quality of life in people with spinal cord disorders.

Aim 1. Evaluate the efficacy of an 8-week, virtual, coach-guided yogic breathing and meditation (YBM) program on QoL and mental health in people with spinal cord disorders.

This study will include completing several questionnaires 3 times, 8 weeks of participating in 2 sessions per week of yogic breathing exercise and meditation via Zoom and being interviewed once at the completion of the 8-week program.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults (18+) with spinal cord disorders who live in the community, can use a device for video calls, understand English, and follow simple instructions. People can't join if they're bedridden on continuous breathing support or already getting certain therapies that could affect results.

Inclusion Criteria

Access to the internet and an electronic device with videoconferencing capability
Able to set up virtual sessions with or without caregiver assistance
I have a disorder affecting my spinal cord.

Exclusion Criteria

I am currently in therapy or another clinical trial that could affect this study's results.
Suicidal intent requiring emergency care
I am bedridden and need noninvasive breathing support all the time.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

Treatment

Participants engage in an 8-week, virtual, coach-guided yogic breathing and meditation program

8 weeks
16 sessions (virtual)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for changes in depressive symptoms and overall well-being
