What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if the RISE-APS model can better support older adults at risk of or experiencing elder abuse or self-neglect. Participants will receive either standard Adult Protective Services (APS) or the RISE-APS model, which provides additional support to APS. Researchers seek to understand if the RISE-APS model offers more benefits than APS alone. This trial suits older adults, aged 60 and up, living in the community and facing elder abuse or self-neglect. Participants will receive services and complete short phone surveys to share their experiences. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity for participants to contribute to innovative research that could enhance support systems for older adults.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the RISE-APS model is safe for supporting older adults?

Research has shown that the RISE model is a new, effective method to help prevent elder abuse and self-neglect. It focuses on reducing harm, respecting personal choices, and improving relationships. Studies have not identified any specific safety issues with the RISE model, indicating it is generally safe for participants.

The APS (Adult Protective Services) component is a standard service already used to protect older adults. No major safety concerns have been reported with this service in general use.

In summary, both RISE and APS aim to support and protect older adults. Based on available information, these methods appear to be well-tolerated without major safety issues.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the RISE-APS model for addressing elder abuse because it combines traditional Adult Protective Services (APS) with the innovative RISE approach. While APS alone focuses on providing immediate safety and welfare to affected individuals, RISE adds a comprehensive strategy: Repair Harm, Inspire Change, Support Connection, and Empower Choice. This holistic model aims not only to protect elders but also to foster healing and empowerment, potentially leading to more sustainable outcomes. By integrating these elements, RISE-APS may offer a more effective and compassionate response to elder abuse compared to conventional methods.

What evidence suggests that the RISE-APS model is effective for supporting older adults at risk of elder abuse?

Research shows that the RISE-APS model, which combines Adult Protective Services (APS) with the RISE approach, may help older adults at risk of abuse or self-neglect. In this trial, one group of participants will receive the RISE-APS combination, while another group will receive only APS. The RISE model uses strategies proven effective in other areas of family violence but is specifically designed for elder abuse situations. It focuses on repairing harm, inspiring change, supporting connection, and empowering choice. Studies suggest it could improve outcomes for those facing elder mistreatment. Although data collection on its effectiveness in this specific area continues, early signs indicate that RISE-APS might offer more benefits than traditional APS services alone.12678

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for older adults aged 60 or above who are at risk of, or experiencing elder abuse or self-neglect. They must live in the community and have an APS case assigned for investigation.
