What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if the online program, Grow Together Thrive Together (G2T2), helps young adults and their caregivers manage disagreements more effectively. The writing-based program encourages participants to reflect on conflicts from a neutral perspective. The trial will assess whether participants complete the program and find it beneficial. Suitable candidates include young adults aged 18-25 and their primary caregivers who have regular internet access and are not currently involved in structured family therapy. As an unphased trial, participants can contribute to innovative research that may enhance family communication.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

No, you can continue your usual or recommended mental health care, including medications, during the study.

What prior data suggests that the G2T2 program is safe for participants?

In a previous study, researchers created the Grow Together, Thrive Together (G2T2) program as a simple and low-effort way to improve relationships. Since the program is online and based on writing, it involves no physical treatments or medications, resulting in no known physical side effects.

The program helps families manage conflicts by encouraging thoughtful planning through writing exercises. It is generally considered safe. Participants complete the writing exercises independently, and these are designed to be easy and stress-free.

The trial aims to assess the program's practicality and acceptability, suggesting it should be manageable for participants. No reports of negative effects have emerged from this type of program, making it a safe choice for those interested in exploring new ways to enhance family relationships.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Grow Together, Thrive Together (G2T2) intervention because it offers a fresh approach to improving parent-child relationships. Unlike traditional therapy or counseling, which often involves in-person sessions with a therapist, G2T2 is a self-directed, online program that uses guided writing exercises to help both parents and emerging adults reframe and manage conflicts. Its unique focus on conflict reappraisal through structured writing prompts, combined with short instructional videos, makes it accessible and convenient, allowing participants to engage in the program at their own pace. This innovative method not only encourages reflection on past conflicts but also helps participants develop strategies for smoother interactions in the future, potentially transforming the way we approach family dynamics.

What evidence suggests that the G2T2 program is effective for improving parent-child relationships?

Studies have shown that strong parent-child relationships aid in resolving conflicts and improving emotional well-being. Research indicates that positive interactions between parents and children lead to better communication and mutual respect. In this trial, the Grow Together, Thrive Together (G2T2) program employs writing exercises to help families view disagreements from a neutral perspective, reducing conflict intensity. Although specific data on G2T2’s effectiveness is still being gathered, similar methods have been linked to more harmonious family dynamics and healthier relationships. Early signs suggest these strategies can build trust and understanding between young adults and their caregivers.678910
