What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if the Positive Parenting Seminar Series, a series of online seminars, can help parents enhance their parenting skills and manage their children's behavior more effectively. It will compare results among parents attending seminars with active discussions, those attending without discussions, and those waiting for the seminars. Parents living in Texas with at least one child aged 2-12, who are not currently involved in mental health services and have internet access, might be suitable candidates. Participants will complete surveys to provide feedback on the seminars and any changes in their parenting and their children's behavior. As an unphased trial, this study offers parents a unique opportunity to contribute to valuable research that could enhance parenting strategies and improve family dynamics.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if your child has started psychiatric medication within the last month, they cannot participate.

What prior data suggests that this seminar series is safe for parents and children?

Research has shown that the Positive Parenting Seminar Series, similar to the Triple P Program, is safe for parents. These seminars teach skills that support children's growth and improve parenting. Studies indicate that participants handle these programs well, with no reported negative effects. Specifically, the Triple P Program reduced child abuse and related issues by 25-35%. The program effectively boosts parents' confidence and prevents harmful parenting practices. Overall, the seminars consistently deliver positive results for both parents and children without any negative side effects.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Positive Parenting Seminars because they offer a fresh approach to supporting parents. Unlike traditional parenting classes that might focus on lectures or reading materials, these seminars include a dynamic, active discussion component that encourages real-time interaction and feedback. This method could lead to more practical and immediate improvements in parenting techniques. Additionally, the trial explores different formats, including a shorter seminar without a discussion component, to understand which approach is most effective. Researchers hope to find out if these innovative seminar designs can enhance parenting skills more rapidly and effectively than standard methods.

What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective for improving parenting practices and child outcomes?

Research has shown that positive parenting seminars can enhance parent-child interactions and improve children's behavior. In this trial, participants may attend either 90-minute seminars with an active discussion component or 60-minute seminars without it. One study found that parents who attended these seminars observed a significant reduction in their children's behavioral issues, with improvements lasting nearly a year. Parents also reported using less physical punishment and experiencing better interactions with their children. Additionally, about 97% of participants noticed positive changes in their parenting approach. Overall, positive parenting seminars effectively build stronger relationships and encourage healthier behavior in children.678910
