What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores whether lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy can improve mood, ease pain, and boost overall satisfaction for those recovering from a planned C-section. Participants will either receive standard care or have aromatherapy tabs placed on their gowns for 24 hours, starting the day after surgery. The researchers aim to determine if those receiving aromatherapy experience better mood and less pain compared to those who do not. This trial is for individuals scheduled for a C-section without complications and who can participate in pre-admission testing. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative recovery methods and contribute to advancing postpartum care.

What prior data suggests that lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy is safe for postpartum recovery?

Research has shown that lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy is generally safe. Studies have found that lavender essential oil in aromatherapy can reduce pain and anxiety after a cesarean section. Importantly, these studies reported no harmful effects, suggesting good patient tolerance. Participants wore aromatherapy tabs for 24 hours without any negative reactions. This makes lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy a promising option for easing discomfort and improving mood during recovery.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Unlike the standard care for C-section recovery, which typically involves medication for pain management and general post-operative care, the lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy offers a non-invasive and natural approach to enhancing recovery. This treatment is unique because it uses self-adhesive aromatherapy tabs that deliver a continuous aromatic experience, potentially improving mood and reducing pain without the side effects associated with drugs. Researchers are excited about this treatment because it represents a novel way to support recovery using the calming properties of essential oils, which could lead to a more pleasant and holistic recovery experience for new mothers.

What evidence suggests that lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy is effective for C-section recovery?

Studies have shown that lavender essential oil can effectively reduce pain and anxiety after a cesarean section without causing side effects. For example, research indicates that women who used lavender aromatherapy experienced less pain than those who did not. Another study found that lavender aromatherapy helped improve mood by reducing anxiety during recovery. In this trial, participants in the experimental group will receive lavender-sandalwood aromatherapy, which may make recovery from a cesarean section more comfortable and satisfying.12345
