What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if short audio mindfulness practices can reduce pain for patients awaiting orthopedic care. Participants will listen to audio-guided mindfulness sessions of varying lengths—1, 2, or 3 minutes—to identify the most effective duration. It suits individuals currently receiving treatment at Tallahassee Orthopedic Center who are fluent in English. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to explore innovative pain management techniques.

Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that audio-guided mindfulness exercises are generally safe and can help reduce pain. A review found these techniques easy to use and safe. Other studies have demonstrated that mindfulness meditation, the basis for these audio guides, effectively reduces pain without causing harm.

Mindfulness practices engage specific brain areas to help lower pain. Research supports this approach, showing no harmful effects. Additionally, mindfulness is well-tolerated and benefits both mental and physical health, making it a promising option for managing pain.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the audio-guided mindfulness interventions for acute pain because they offer a non-drug approach that could be fast and effective. Unlike standard pain treatments like opioids or NSAIDs, these interventions use short, guided mindfulness exercises—lasting just 1, 2, or 3 minutes—to help manage pain. This method is unique because it relies on mental techniques rather than medications, reducing the risk of side effects or addiction. By focusing on mindfulness, researchers hope to provide a quick and accessible tool for pain relief that can be easily incorporated into daily life.

What evidence suggests that this trial's mindfulness interventions could be effective for acute pain?

Research has shown that mindfulness meditation can reduce pain by altering the brain's response to it. Studies have found that mindfulness-based activities effectively lessen both short-term and long-term pain. For instance, practicing mindfulness can increase pain tolerance, allowing individuals to endure more pain before it becomes uncomfortable. Mindfulness operates through different brain processes than medications, offering a unique method for pain relief. This trial will compare different durations of mindfulness interventions: 1-minute, 2-minute, and 3-minute sessions. While most research focuses on longer mindfulness sessions, even these short practices have shown potential in easing pain.26789

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
