What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests a program designed to improve daily life for people with metastatic breast cancer. The program combines physical activity with mindfulness and acceptance techniques to enhance mental, social, and spiritual well-being. It aims to determine if this approach can alleviate fatigue and stress often associated with advanced cancer. Participants should have metastatic breast cancer, be able to use a smartphone, and have their doctor's approval to join. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative methods to enhance quality of life for those with advanced cancer.

Do I need to stop my current medications for this trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with your healthcare provider.

What prior data suggests that this mindfulness-based physical activity program is safe for individuals with metastatic breast cancer?

Studies have shown that techniques focused on acceptance and mindfulness are generally safe for breast cancer survivors. These methods not only pose no harm but also improve quality of life by reducing anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Research indicates that practicing mindfulness significantly enhances mental well-being for those with breast cancer.

Participants in these studies reported better quality of life and fewer mental health issues compared to those who did not use these techniques. Overall, the safety data suggest that mindfulness-based physical activity is a well-tolerated way to promote better health among breast cancer survivors.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the mindfulness-based physical activity approach for breast cancer patients because it offers a fresh perspective on managing the condition. Unlike traditional treatments that often focus on medication or surgery, this approach emphasizes mental well-being and physical activity through acceptance and mindfulness techniques. This could provide a holistic benefit, potentially reducing stress and improving quality of life, all without the side effects commonly associated with standard cancer treatments. By integrating psychological and physical health strategies, it aims to empower patients in a new way, making it a promising complement to existing therapies.

What evidence suggests that this mindfulness-based physical activity program is effective for metastatic breast cancer?

Research has shown that activities combining acceptance, mindfulness, and physical exercise can enhance the overall well-being of breast cancer survivors. In this trial, participants will receive an Acceptance- and Mindfulness-Based Intervention, which incorporates standard self-regulatory behavior change techniques alongside mindfulness-based physical activity promotion. Studies have found that these activities can reduce anxiety, depression, and fatigue in breast cancer patients. They also encourage increased physical activity, which is crucial for improving quality of life. Evidence suggests that even online versions of these programs effectively promote physical activity. Therefore, combining mindfulness with exercise may help individuals with metastatic breast cancer manage symptoms and improve daily life.23456
