What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of the study is to compare the effectiveness of recorded gut-directed hypnosis to an educational recording in people with chronic problems in their gastrointestinal (GI) system. Patients who are hospitalized at Stanford Hospital for worsening pain and/or nausea will be considered for enrollment.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults hospitalized at Stanford with chronic GI problems like IBD, IBS, abdominal pain, or esophageal disorders who are experiencing worsening pain or nausea.

Inclusion Criteria

I was hospitalized to manage severe pain or nausea from my condition.
I am an adult staying in the hospital for more than 24 hours for GI care.
I have been diagnosed with a gut-brain, esophageal, or inflammatory bowel disorder.

Exclusion Criteria

Enrolled in another trial for GI symptom management
I have been admitted to the hospital for a GI procedure.
Severe developmental delay or cognitive impairment

Interventions

  • Gut-directed hypnotherapy via telephone intervention

Trial Overview

The study compares two approaches: one group listens to gut-directed hypnosis recordings by phone, while the other group listens to an educational recording. The goal is to see which helps more with GI symptoms.
