What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this research is to determine whether peanut consumption improves indicators of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in human subjects following the consumption of study foods.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults who experience high levels of stress. Participants should not have allergies to peanuts or other major health issues that could interfere with the study.

Inclusion Criteria

I am male or female.
BMI ≥ 18.5 kg/m2 and ≤ 39.9 kg/m2
Recruitment based on Perceived Stress Scale - 4 (PSS-4) score

Exclusion Criteria

Recent hospitalization within 4 weeks
Gives regular blood donations and is unwilling to stop during the study
Alcohol consumption > 20 g/day

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Peanut Intervention

Participants consume 42g of peanuts with skin daily for 4 weeks

4 weeks
4 visits (in-person)

Washout

Participants undergo a washout period to clear previous intervention effects

4 weeks

Corn Chips Intervention

Participants consume 45g of corn chips daily for 4 weeks

4 weeks
4 visits (in-person)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after treatment

4 weeks

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Trial Overview

The study compares eating roasted, salted peanuts (with skins) to eating another food with the same calories, to see if peanuts help improve heart health and reduce stress-related problems.
