What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores how a supplement called alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (A-GPC) affects muscle strength, endurance, and power. The goal is to determine if A-GPC can improve these aspects of muscular performance. Participants will receive either the A-GPC supplement or a placebo (a pill with no active ingredient). The trial seeks college-aged males who exercise regularly and do not have health issues like heart or liver problems. As an unphased trial, it offers participants the chance to contribute to pioneering research in sports nutrition and potentially enhance their own athletic performance.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

Yes, you must stop taking any medications to participate in this trial.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that Alpha-GPC is generally safe for use. Studies have found it is usually well-tolerated, though some individuals might experience mild side effects like headaches or mental fogginess, especially with an initial high dose. Importantly, the body absorbs Alpha-GPC as choline, a nutrient safe for many, including breastfeeding individuals. While minor side effects can occur, current research considers the treatment safe.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Unlike traditional supplements for boosting muscular performance, which often include creatine or branched-chain amino acids, alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (Alpha-GPC) is unique because it is a naturally occurring choline compound that enhances acetylcholine production, a key neurotransmitter involved in muscle contraction. This mechanism could potentially lead to improved muscle performance by optimizing nerve signal transmission to muscles. Researchers are excited about Alpha-GPC because it offers a novel approach to enhancing physical performance, potentially providing quicker and more efficient results than current options.

What evidence suggests that Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine might be an effective treatment for muscular performance?

Research suggests that Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (A-GPC) might improve muscle performance. In one study, participants who took A-GPC for six days showed stronger lower body muscles. Another study found that taking A-GPC for seven days increased muscle power in trained cyclists. However, not all research agrees, as some studies did not find an increase in power. In this trial, participants in the supplement group will receive A-GPC to evaluate its effects on muscle strength and power, particularly in the lower body.26789
