VisionApp for Double Vision
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests a smartphone app called VisionApp to determine its accuracy in measuring vision issues like ghosting (seeing duplicate images). Participants will wear various soft multifocal contact lenses and report any shadows or distortions they observe. The goal is to assess whether the app can reliably assist people with refractive errors (issues with how eyes focus light). Individuals who have had an eye exam in the last two years and have clear vision with glasses or contacts may be suitable for this trial. As an unphased trial, this study allows participants to contribute to innovative research that could enhance vision care technology.
Do I need to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
Yes, you will need to stop taking any systemic or topical medications that could affect your eye health and vision.
What prior data suggests that VisionApp is safe for evaluating refractive error?
A previous study showed that VisionApp is a safe tool for checking vision problems. This app uses a smartphone to help users test their eyesight by displaying letters and shapes on the screen. Users have reported no adverse reactions from using it. VisionApp is non-invasive, meaning it doesn't involve any physical contact or procedures, making it easy for users to tolerate. Additionally, since it functions like other vision tests already in use, it is expected to be safe for most people.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about VisionApp because it's exploring a new way to address double vision using multifocal contact lenses. Unlike conventional treatments that often rely on glasses with prisms or eye exercises, VisionApp uses a digital approach to assess and fine-tune the visual experience. By having participants describe shadows or distortions they see while wearing different lenses, VisionApp aims to personalize the treatment more effectively. This method could lead to a more customized and potentially quicker solution for individuals with double vision, offering a promising alternative to existing options.
What evidence suggests that VisionApp is effective for double vision?
Research has shown that technologies like VisionApp help identify and correct vision problems such as double vision. Improved detection methods have enhanced eye alignment and vision, with therapies targeting brain-related causes of double vision proving successful up to 87% of the time. Although prisms are a common treatment, they often need to be combined with other methods to effectively enhance vision quality. In this trial, VisionApp aims to measure vision errors by checking the distance between the participant's face and the device. This new approach could be promising for those dealing with ghosting or double vision. Participants will look at letters and describe any shadows or distortions they see while wearing different soft multifocal contact lenses, with the order of lenses randomized.45678
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for people with mild to moderate nearsightedness and low astigmatism, who have had an eye exam in the last 2 years, see well with correction (20/20 vision), do not have lazy eye or other diagnosed eye diseases, and can follow study instructions.Inclusion Criteria
Timeline for a Trial Participant
Screening
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial
Study Visit
Participants undergo demographic and health/ocular history collection, standard clinical testing, and ghosting assessments with different contact lenses
Follow-up
Participants may return for additional testing if unable to complete all assessments in a single session

Trial Overview
The study tests a smartphone app called VisionApp that measures vision by having users look at targets on their phone. It compares results using different daily contact lenses to check how accurate and reliable the app is for detecting ghosting or double vision.

Active Control
Subjects will be asked to look at letters and describe any shadows or distortions they see using slider bars or numerical rating scales. This will be performed twice, while wearing two different soft multifocal contact lenses in one eye. The order in which the participant wears each of the multifocal contact lenses for these tasks will be randomized. After the assessment while wearing the first multifocal lens is completed, subjects will repeat the task while wearing the second multifocal lens.
