What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to test a new AI tool designed to help doctors diagnose health issues more accurately during primary care visits for older adults. The AI-based diagnostic support tool suggests possible diagnoses and tests based on symptoms and medical history, which patients, caregivers, and doctors then discuss together. It is ideal for individuals aged 65 or older with a new or worsening health concern and an upcoming primary care appointment. Participants will provide feedback on their experience using the tool. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative healthcare technology.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems focused on using an AI tool during a primary care visit, so it's unlikely that you would need to change your medications.

What prior data suggests that this AI diagnostic support tool is safe for older adults?

Research has shown that AI tools in healthcare can enhance safety by identifying health risks early. Studies have found that AI systems can manage complex patient information, suggesting accurate diagnoses and tests based on symptoms and medical history. This assists doctors in making better decisions.

AI tools, like the one in this trial, are computer programs that support doctors, not medications. Studies have not shown any direct harm to patients from these tools. They assist doctors by organizing and analyzing health information, making them a safe option to consider.

Although AI tools are new, they are designed to complement doctors, not replace them. This ensures that patient care remains in human hands, making these tools well-accepted in healthcare settings.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the AI Diagnostic Support Tool, INTERLACE, because it offers a fresh approach to diagnosing medical conditions in primary care. Unlike traditional methods that heavily rely on a clinician's experience and intuition, INTERLACE uses artificial intelligence to analyze symptoms, vital signs, and medical history to suggest potential diagnoses and tests. This collaborative tool empowers patients, caregivers, and clinicians to engage in more informed discussions, potentially leading to quicker and more accurate diagnoses. By integrating technology into the diagnostic process, INTERLACE could streamline visits and improve patient outcomes.

What evidence suggests that this AI diagnostic support tool is effective for improving diagnosis in older adults?

Research has shown that artificial intelligence (AI) tools can help doctors diagnose illnesses more accurately and quickly. In this trial, all participants will use the INTERLACE AI tool during their primary care visits. Studies have found that AI assists primary care doctors by examining patient symptoms and medical history to improve diagnoses. One study showed that AI achieved a diagnostic accuracy rate of 52.1%, similar to that of human doctors. AI tools also convert complex patient information into easy-to-understand visuals, simplifying discussions between doctors and patients about health issues. Early evidence suggests that AI can enhance healthcare by making diagnoses faster and more precise, especially in complicated cases.56789
