FoundationDRS Solo for Foot Ulcer
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores whether the FoundationDRS Solo treatment, a new potential therapy, can heal stubborn foot ulcers in people with diabetes more effectively than standard care alone. Participants will receive treatment for one foot ulcer with both FoundationDRS Solo and standard care, while another ulcer will receive only standard care. The researchers aim to determine if the FoundationDRS Solo group experiences better healing over 12 weeks. Individuals with diabetes and foot ulcers that haven't improved with regular treatment for at least four weeks might be suitable for this study. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that could enhance future treatment options.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
The trial information does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if you are on immunosuppressants or certain steroids, you may not be eligible to participate.
What prior data suggests that FoundationDRS Solo is safe for treating foot ulcers?
Research has shown that FoundationDRS Solo is generally safe for patients. This treatment is a specialized wound care device made from materials such as chitosan, derived from shellfish, and chondroitin sulfate. Past studies on diabetic foot ulcers have reported no major safety issues. Strong evidence supports its safety and effectiveness in healing wounds.
Additionally, the FDA has approved FoundationDRS Solo for other uses, indicating its safety. While researchers continue to test it specifically for foot ulcers, current data show no major side effects, suggesting it is likely safe for most patients.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
FoundationDRS Solo is unique because it uses a porous, degradable composite scaffold made from chitosan and chondroitin sulfate to treat foot ulcers. Unlike the standard care options, which typically involve cleaning and dressing the wound, followed by debridement, FoundationDRS Solo aims to provide a supportive structure that promotes tissue regeneration and healing. Researchers are excited about its potential to enhance the body's natural healing processes and possibly reduce healing time compared to traditional methods.
What evidence suggests that FoundationDRS Solo might be an effective treatment for foot ulcers?
Research shows that FoundationDRS Solo, a specially designed material made from natural substances, might help heal long-lasting foot sores in people with diabetes. In this trial, participants will receive either FoundationDRS Solo or standard care treatment. Studies have found that these types of products can help wounds heal better by providing a structure that supports new tissue growth. Although specific data on FoundationDRS Solo is still being gathered, similar products have closed sores more effectively than standard treatments alone. By boosting the body's natural healing process, these products aim to close the wound and prevent further issues. Ongoing research will confirm how well FoundationDRS Solo works for this condition.13678
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults with type 1 or 2 diabetes who have a foot ulcer that hasn't healed after at least 4 weeks of standard care. The ulcer must be clean, not infected, and located on the foot below the ankle. Participants need to be generally healthy enough to take part and able to attend weekly visits.Inclusion Criteria

Trial Overview
The study compares healing rates of diabetic foot ulcers treated with FoundationDRS Solo plus standard wound care versus standard wound care alone over 12 weeks. Each participant's ulcers are randomly assigned to one treatment or the other, with progress tracked weekly.
