Freesolve RMS for Coronary Artery Disease
(BIOMAG-III Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to test a new treatment called the Freesolve Resorbable Magnesium Scaffold (RMS) for individuals with coronary artery disease, which affects the heart's blood vessels. Researchers seek to determine if this new option is effective and safe compared to the existing Xience drug-eluting stent (DES). Individuals with stable or unstable chest pain (angina) or a mild heart attack without a blood clot might be suitable candidates.
As an unphased trial, this study provides patients the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that could lead to new treatment options.
What prior data suggests that the Freesolve resorbable magnesium scaffold (RMS) system is safe for treating coronary artery disease?
Research has shown that the Freesolve Resorbable Magnesium Scaffold (RMS) is safe. One study reported no heart-related deaths, heart attacks linked to the treated area, or clots caused by the scaffold over four years. Another study found no new major issues between the second and third years after implantation. These results suggest that the Freesolve RMS is generally well-tolerated over time with few serious problems. This track record can reassure potential participants about the treatment's safety.12345
Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for coronary artery disease?
Researchers are excited about the Freesolve Resorbable Magnesium Scaffold (RMS) System because it offers a unique approach for treating coronary artery disease. Unlike traditional metal stents, which remain in the body indefinitely, the Freesolve RMS gradually dissolves over time, potentially reducing long-term complications like inflammation or stent thrombosis. Additionally, it elutes sirolimus, a drug that helps prevent the artery from narrowing again, combining the benefits of stent support with active drug delivery. This innovative scaffold could improve outcomes by minimizing the need for future interventions and offering a more natural healing process.
What evidence suggests that the Freesolve RMS is effective for coronary artery disease?
Research has shown that the Freesolve Resorbable Magnesium Scaffold (RMS), which participants in this trial may receive, holds promise for treating coronary artery disease. One study reported no heart-related deaths or heart attacks linked to the treated artery over three years. Another study found that the blood vessel remained open six months after treatment, indicating good blood flow. Resorbable scaffolds like Freesolve may lead to fewer long-term issues compared to traditional stents. These findings suggest it could effectively treat blocked arteries. This trial will compare the Freesolve RMS with the Xience Everolimus Eluting Stent System, the active comparator.678910
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults aged 18 to 80 with heart artery disease who have up to two new blockages in their native coronary arteries. Participants must be suitable for stent procedures or bypass surgery and have stable or unstable chest pain, silent ischemia, or a mild type of heart attack.Inclusion Criteria
Timeline for a Trial Participant
Screening
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial
Treatment
Participants receive either the Freesolve RMS or Xience DES system for coronary artery lesions
Follow-up

Trial Overview
The study compares the safety and effectiveness of a new dissolvable magnesium scaffold (Freesolve RMS) versus a standard drug-coated metal stent (Xience DES) in treating blocked heart arteries. Patients are randomly assigned to receive one of these devices during their procedure.
