PREP Program for Burnout
(PREP Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to assess the impact of the PREP program on the mental and work well-being of nurse residents. The PREP program, integrated into the current nurse training, emphasizes emotional readiness for work. Participants either join the PREP program or follow the usual nurse residency curriculum. Nurses in a residency program at AdventHealth and working in hospital settings are well-suited for this trial. As an unphased trial, it provides nurse residents a unique opportunity to enhance their emotional readiness and contribute to the improvement of future training programs.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.
What prior data suggests that the PREP program is safe for participants?
Research into burnout solutions, such as the Professional Readiness through Emotional Preparedness (PREP) program, aims to enhance mental health and job satisfaction among healthcare workers. Studies have shown that burnout can lead to lower job performance and mental health issues. Specifically, research has found that burnout is linked to reduced quality and safety in healthcare.
The PREP program seeks to prevent these problems by teaching emotional readiness. Although specific safety data for the PREP program is unavailable, educational programs for burnout typically do not have significant negative effects. They focus on teaching coping skills and building mental resilience.
Overall, educational programs like PREP aim to support well-being without causing harm. Participants generally find these programs helpful and safe.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Unlike traditional methods for addressing nurse burnout, which often focus on general stress management techniques, the PREP program is unique because it integrates emotional preparedness directly into the existing nurse residency curriculum. Researchers are excited about this approach because it targets emotional readiness, aiming to equip nurses with specific skills to handle the emotional demands of their profession. This could lead to more resilient healthcare workers who are better prepared for the emotional challenges of nursing, potentially reducing burnout more effectively than current options.
What evidence suggests that the PREP program is effective for burnout?
Research has shown that the Professional Readiness through Emotional Preparedness (PREP) program, which participants in this trial may receive, can help reduce burnout in nurses. One study found that participants in the program felt less exhausted, less cynical, and more effective at work. Another study on mindfulness, similar to the PREP program, showed a 36% reduction in burnout for nurses who completed it. Additionally, disaster education programs, which share some similarities with PREP, have helped nurses feel more mentally prepared. These findings suggest that the PREP program could effectively improve nurses' mental health and job satisfaction.678910
