What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if vasopressin improves the body's response to intravenous fluids during kidney transplantation in patients who have relaxed blood vessels. Researchers will compare the results of vasopressin to those who received calcium chloride.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults 18 or older who are having a kidney transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and can give informed consent.

Inclusion Criteria

I am having a kidney transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
I am 18 years old or older.
Able to provide informed consent

Exclusion Criteria

I cannot safely take the study's blood pressure medications.
I am unable to give informed consent for my treatment.
Patients in whom required intraoperative monitoring cannot be performed

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Intraoperative

Participants undergo intraoperative circulation phenotyping and receive phenotype-guided vasoactive medication during kidney transplantation

Duration of surgery
1 visit (in-person)

Postoperative Follow-up

Participants are monitored for delayed graft function and other postoperative outcomes

1 week
1 visit (in-person)

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Interventions

  • Phenotype-Guided Vasoactive Management

Trial Overview

The study compares two ways to manage blood pressure during kidney transplants: using vasopressin based on the patient's condition versus giving calcium chloride. The goal is to see which method helps fluids work better in patients with relaxed blood vessels.
