What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this study is to compare recovery unit and post operation day (POD) 1 pain score in women following elective robotic assisted TLH (RA-TLH) for benign indication with and without local vaginal cuff injection of short acting bupivacaine and long acting Exparel, to evaluate postoperative pain management and control by assessing the amount and frequency of NSAIDS and opioids taken and to assess bleeding, vaginal discharge and or vaginal dehiscence at the postoperative follow up visit.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for women having a planned robotic-assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) for non-cancerous reasons. Participants must be eligible for this surgery and able to follow study instructions.

Inclusion Criteria

At least 66.5kg weight
I am scheduled for a robotic hysterectomy for a non-cancer reason at a Memorial Hermann hospital.

Exclusion Criteria

I am having a combined surgery or an alternative treatment approach.
I have stayed overnight in a hospital as an inpatient.

Interventions

  • Combined Bupivacaine and Exparel

Trial Overview

The study compares pain control after surgery between two groups: one receives a local injection of both short-acting bupivacaine and long-acting Exparel at the surgical site, while the other gets a saline injection as a placebo.
