Topical Timolol for Surgical Wounds

This trial tests whether a topical solution called timolol can improve wound healing when left to heal naturally without stitches or closure. It targets wounds from specific skin surgeries, such as Mohs surgery and standard excisions. Participants will use either the timolol solution or a standard hydrogel treatment for 12 weeks and upload photos of their healing progress. Individuals who have undergone one of these surgeries and chosen natural healing might be suitable for this trial. As a Phase 2 trial, this research measures the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, allowing participants to contribute to important medical advancements.

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications, but if you are currently taking asthma or COPD medications, you may not be eligible to participate.

Research has shown that using topical timolol on wounds is generally safe. One study reported no heart or breathing problems when timolol was applied to long-lasting wounds, indicating it is usually well-tolerated on the skin. Timolol may also accelerate wound healing by speeding up the formation of new skin. In one study, 90.9% of patients experienced either full or partial improvement with timolol treatment. Another study found that scars appeared better in patients using timolol, as measured by the Vancouver Scar Scale. Timolol appears to enhance healing by increasing blood flow and aiding cell repair.
