CTAP101 for Chronic Kidney Disease

This trial explores how CTAP101 Capsules can help children with certain kidney issues manage their condition more effectively. The trial aims to test the safety and effectiveness of the capsules for children with stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and low vitamin D levels. Participants will take the capsules before bed for 8 weeks. Children who have had these specific kidney issues for at least six months and can safely swallow the capsules may be suitable for this study. As a Phase 2 trial, the research focuses on measuring the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, offering participants a chance to contribute to important advancements in kidney disease treatment.

You may need to stop or adjust some of your current medications. If you're taking calcitriol or certain vitamin D therapies, you'll need to stop them and have a 2-week break before starting the trial. If you're on high doses of vitamin D or calcium, you might need to reduce the dose and also have a 2-week break before the trial.

Research has shown that CTAP101 has undergone safety testing in several studies involving individuals with chronic kidney disease. These studies indicate that CTAP101 is generally well-tolerated. Specifically, one study found that participants with chronic kidney disease who took CTAP101 did not experience major safety issues, and side effects were similar to those in the placebo group.
