What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores a new treatment called ANG003, an experimental therapy, for individuals with cystic fibrosis who struggle with digestion due to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). The goal is to determine if ANG003 is safe and as effective as Creon, a currently approved enzyme therapy. Participants will try different doses of ANG003 or continue using Creon to assess which is more effective. Those with cystic fibrosis who regularly use enzyme replacement therapy and have a controlled form of EPI might be suitable candidates. As a Phase 2 trial, this research focuses on evaluating the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, offering participants a chance to contribute to significant advancements in cystic fibrosis care.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications, but it requires that you have been on a stable dose of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy for 90 days before the screening.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that ANG003 has been tested for safety in people with cystic fibrosis. In earlier studies, most participants tolerated ANG003 well, experiencing only mild side effects that were not serious. ANG003 functions similarly to other enzyme treatments for pancreatic issues, such as Creon, suggesting it should be safe. However, further research is needed to confirm this. Previous studies indicate it might be a helpful option for those needing enzyme replacement therapy.12345

Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising?

Researchers are excited about ANG003 for cystic fibrosis because it offers a potentially new approach to managing the condition. While standard treatments like Creon focus on enzyme replacement to aid digestion, ANG003 is being tested to see if it can improve digestion differently, possibly offering a more effective or faster-acting solution. The trial is exploring different doses of ANG003, which might help tailor the treatment to individual needs, potentially enhancing its effectiveness. If successful, ANG003 could provide a significant advancement in the quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis.

What evidence suggests that ANG003 could be an effective treatment for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in cystic fibrosis?

Research has shown that ANG003, a non-pig enzyme treatment, may improve fat absorption in people with cystic fibrosis. This trial will test different doses of ANG003, including Dose A and Dose B, to evaluate their effectiveness. Studies indicate that ANG003 significantly enhances the absorption of essential fatty acids like DHA and EPA, which are crucial for good health. Evidence suggests that ANG003 might be effective at lower doses than other enzyme treatments derived from pigs. This could make it a strong option for those with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, as it aids in the digestion and absorption of nutrients.12567

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for people aged 12 and older (in the US) or 18 and older (in the EU) who have cystic fibrosis with severe pancreatic insufficiency. Participants must have a stable weight, be on a steady dose of enzyme therapy for at least 90 days, and meet certain BMI requirements.

Inclusion Criteria

I have severe EPI with a low fecal elastase test result.
I have controlled EPI and have been on the same PERT dose for at least 90 days.
My BMI is at or above the 25th percentile for my age (12-17 years).
