AL001 for Bipolar Disorder

This trial tests the safety and effects of a new form of lithium called AL001 for individuals diagnosed with bipolar I disorder. Researchers aim to compare how AL001 is processed in the brain and body against standard lithium carbonate. Participants will take both forms of lithium in different sequences and spend time in a research unit for monitoring. This study suits individuals with bipolar I disorder who are on a stable mood-stabilizing medication regimen or are untreated but stable, and who are willing to stay at the research center for the required periods. As a Phase 1, Phase 2 trial, this research focuses on understanding how AL001 works in people and measuring its effectiveness in an initial group, offering participants the chance to contribute to groundbreaking treatment advancements.

You can continue taking your current mood stabilizing medications if they have been stable for over 30 days before the trial and no changes are planned during the study. However, some medications are not allowed, and any exceptions must be approved by the study team.

Research shows that AL001, a new form of lithium, is generally easy for the body to handle. Studies have found that AL001 delivers the same amount of lithium to the body as regular lithium carbonate, without the need for frequent blood tests.
