ELV001 for Rheumatoid Arthritis
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a new drug, ELV001, for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a condition that causes painful joint swelling. Participants will receive one of three different doses of ELV001 or a placebo (a non-active treatment) to assess its efficacy and potential side effects. Ideal candidates have had a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis for at least six months, experience active joint swelling, and currently take methotrexate and a TNFi (a type of medication for RA). As a Phase 2 trial, this research measures the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, offering participants a chance to contribute to significant advancements in RA treatment.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
Participants must continue taking methotrexate (MTX) and a TNFi (tumor necrosis factor inhibitor) at stable doses. Other RA medications like hydroxychloroquine and low-dose prednisone are allowed if doses are stable before the trial. Some medications must be stopped 2 to 12 months before the trial, depending on the type.
Is there any evidence suggesting that ELV001 is likely to be safe for humans?
Previous studies have shown that ELV001 is generally safe and well-tolerated. Early results indicated that many patients did not experience serious side effects. Common side effects included mild headaches and nausea, but these were not severe. Most patients continued their treatments without major issues. This suggests that ELV001 might be a safe option for those considering joining the trial.12345
Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for rheumatoid arthritis?
Researchers are excited about ELV001 for treating rheumatoid arthritis because it offers some promising new features compared to standard treatments like methotrexate and biologics. Unlike these existing options, ELV001 works by targeting a novel pathway, potentially providing relief to patients who haven't responded well to traditional therapies. This new approach might offer improved symptom control and better quality of life for patients. Additionally, ELV001 is being tested in various dosages, which could lead to more personalized treatment options.
What evidence suggests that ELV001 might be an effective treatment for rheumatoid arthritis?
Research has shown that ELV001 may help treat rheumatoid arthritis. Early studies found that ELV001 was safe and well-tolerated by patients, with indications of potential effectiveness. ELV001 targets the causes of ongoing joint inflammation, a major issue in rheumatoid arthritis. These studies primarily examined changes in the Disease Activity Score (DAS28-CRP), which measures arthritis activity. The results demonstrated improvement in this score, suggesting that ELV001 could effectively help manage the condition.12346
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults aged 18-75 with active rheumatoid arthritis who haven't improved enough with methotrexate and TNF inhibitor treatments. Participants must have had RA for at least 6 months, be on stable doses of these medications, and have certain levels of joint swelling and inflammation.Inclusion Criteria

Trial Overview
The study tests different doses (25 mg, 75 mg, or 125 mg) of a new drug called ELV001 compared to a placebo. All participants continue their usual methotrexate treatment. The trial lasts about 32 weeks and uses random assignment so neither patients nor doctors know which treatment is given.
