What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to improve life outcomes for autistic young adults by testing a new digital coaching program. It compares traditional face-to-face goal coaching with a digital companion that provides personalized support and coaching. The goal is to determine if this digital approach, specifically self-directed goal coaching, can help autistic individuals succeed in areas like work, school, and social life. Individuals with an autism diagnosis who are involved in work or education and manage their daily activities independently might be a good fit for this study. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative digital support methods that could enhance personal and professional growth.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It is best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that this digital coaching program is safe for autistic young adults?

Research has shown that self-directed goal coaching, particularly through digital platforms, is generally safe and well-received. For example, studies on similar online coaching programs for parents of children with autism have reported positive outcomes. Participants in these studies often feel more satisfied and less stressed. No major negative effects have been linked to these digital programs. Digital tools for coaching have effectively boosted skills and confidence, without significant negative feedback.

Therefore, those considering joining a trial for digital coaching can view it as a safe choice based on current evidence.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Unlike traditional autism therapies that rely on in-person sessions with counselors using paper-based methods, the digital coaching intervention is unique because it leverages a digital companion for goal coaching. This approach offers the flexibility and convenience of access anytime and anywhere, allowing for more personalized and consistent support. Researchers are excited about this method because it could make autism coaching more accessible and engaging, potentially enhancing outcomes by integrating technology into daily life seamlessly.

What evidence suggests that this digital coaching program is effective for autism?

Research has shown that digital goal coaching can benefit autistic individuals. In this trial, participants will join one of two groups: one receiving goal coaching through a digital companion and the other using traditional face-to-face meetings with human counselors and paper-and-pencil materials. Studies have found that autistic adults who set their own goals and receive digital support make significant progress in achieving those goals. Specifically, a structured coaching program called Compass-Behavioral improved planning, focus, and overall well-being in autistic youth and adults. Participants in these programs demonstrated better skills in areas like planning and concentration. These findings suggest that digital coaching can help autistic young adults improve their lives and achieve personal goals.678910
