What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores a new treatment called HS235 for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition characterized by high blood pressure in the lungs, which makes breathing and exercise difficult. The trial aims to assess the safety and effectiveness of HS235 when added to current treatments. Participants will receive either the HS235 injection or a placebo to compare results. Suitable candidates have PAH and are on stable doses of at least two PAH medications. Participants must be able to walk between 150 to 500 meters in six minutes, which helps assess their current physical function. As a Phase 1, Phase 2 trial, this research focuses on understanding how the treatment works in people and measuring its effectiveness in an initial, smaller group.

Is there any evidence suggesting that HS235 is likely to be safe for humans?

Research has shown that HS235 remains safe so far. Early lab studies found HS235 both safe and effective, leading to its current testing for pulmonary arterial hypertension (a type of high blood pressure in the lungs). These early studies reported no serious side effects linked to HS235. However, this trial is in an early stage, focusing mainly on safety. While initial results appear promising, more information is needed to fully understand the treatment's safety for people.12345

Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for pulmonary arterial hypertension?

Unlike the standard of care for pulmonary arterial hypertension, which typically includes oral medications like endothelin receptor antagonists and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, HS235 is a subcutaneous injection. This new delivery method can offer more consistent drug levels in the body, potentially leading to better management of symptoms. Researchers are also excited because HS235 might target the disease through a novel mechanism, possibly offering benefits to patients who do not respond well to current treatments.

What evidence suggests that HS235 might be an effective treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension?

Studies have shown that HS235 can help people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Early animal research demonstrated that HS235 improved heart and lung function, making exercise easier. This suggests it might help people with PAH by facilitating blood flow through the lungs. The treatment blocks a process called activin signaling, which researchers believe plays a role in PAH. Although research remains in the early stages, the promising results offer hope for improving life with PAH. Participants in this trial will receive either HS235 or a placebo to further evaluate its effectiveness and safety.12367

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults (18+) diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) Group 1, who have symptoms ranging from mild to severe and are already on stable doses of at least two approved PAH treatments. Participants must meet certain heart and lung function criteria and be able to walk between 150–500 meters in six minutes.

Trial Overview

The study tests a new drug called HS235, which blocks activin signaling, compared to a placebo. Both are given alongside standard PAH treatments. The main goals are to check safety, how the body processes the drug, its effects on the disease, and if it helps patients feel or function better.
