What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine how food affects the levels of a drug called tersolisib in the bloodstream. Participants will take the drug twice: once on an empty stomach and once after consuming either a high-fat or low-fat meal. The goal is to understand how the body processes the drug under these different conditions. Healthy individuals with no significant medical history and a normal BMI (body mass index) are suitable candidates for this study. As a Phase 1 trial, the research focuses on understanding how the treatment works in people, offering participants the opportunity to be among the first to receive this new drug.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. However, since the trial requires participants to be healthy with no significant medical conditions, it's possible that taking certain medications might affect eligibility. It's best to discuss your specific situation with the trial organizers.

Is there any evidence suggesting that tersolisib is likely to be safe for humans?

Previous studies have examined the safety of tersolisib. Reports show that, when combined with other cancer drugs, tersolisib is generally well-tolerated. Some side effects have been noted, often mild. For example, studies with similar drugs reported mild diarrhea as a common side effect. This trial is in its early stages, focusing on the drug's safety and how the body processes it. Early-stage trials typically involve close monitoring to ensure safety, offering some reassurance about the treatment's safety in humans so far.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Tersolisib is unique because it explores how food intake affects its effectiveness, which is an angle not commonly examined in current cancer treatments. Most cancer drugs don't consider the impact of meals on drug absorption, focusing instead solely on their cancer-targeting mechanisms. Tersolisib's potential to be administered effectively with or without food could lead to more flexible treatment schedules and improve patient comfort. Researchers are excited because understanding these interactions might enhance the drug's efficiency and tolerability, offering a new perspective on cancer treatment protocols.

What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective?

This trial investigates how food affects the absorption of tersolisib in the body. Participants will receive tersolisib under different conditions: fasted, with a high-fat meal, or with a low-fat meal. Although specific data on tersolisib's effectiveness for certain conditions is not yet available, understanding its absorption can enhance its future use in treatments. Tersolisib is part of a broader effort to develop new drugs that may treat diseases by blocking pathways that contribute to their progression. While this study focuses on absorption, the ultimate aim is to discover effective treatments for serious conditions.12367

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

1-2 weeks

Treatment

Participants receive two single oral doses of tersolisib, one under fasted conditions and one with either a high-fat or a low-fat meal. Blood tests are performed to investigate how the body processes the study drug under each condition.

4 weeks
Stay in the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) for almost a month

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after treatment

4 weeks

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Interventions

  • Tersolisib

Trial Overview

The study tests how eating different types of meals (high-fat or low-fat) affects the way the body absorbs and processes a new drug called tersolisib. Each person takes two single doses, one with food and one without.
