What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to test whether a special light treatment called OptiLIGHT can safely and effectively treat chalazion, a swollen bump on the eyelid. Participants will receive either the real light treatment or a placebo to compare results. Individuals with a chalazion in its early swollen stage, without recent eye infections or surgeries, may qualify for this study. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to explore new treatment options for chalazion.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop all current medications, but you must not use certain photosensitive medications like Isotretinoin, Tetracycline, Doxycycline, and St. John's Wort within 1 week before screening.

What prior data suggests that OptiLIGHT is safe for treating Chalazion?

Research has shown that intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, such as OptiLIGHT, is generally safe for people with chalazion, a common eyelid bump. One study found that IPL effectively shrank chalazia (the plural of chalazion) without requiring surgery. Another study confirmed these results, demonstrating that IPL improved the condition with few side effects.

These findings suggest that patients tolerate OptiLIGHT well. While most people did not experience serious issues, some might have mild redness or discomfort in the treated area. Overall, the evidence supports the safety of using IPL treatments like OptiLIGHT for chalazion.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Most treatments for chalazion, like warm compresses, antibiotics, or surgical drainage, focus on reducing inflammation or mechanically removing blockages. OptiLIGHT, on the other hand, uses intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, which is believed to reduce inflammation and improve gland function by targeting abnormal blood vessels and bacteria. This non-invasive approach could offer a quicker, less invasive option compared to surgery, with the added benefit of potentially addressing the root cause of the condition rather than just the symptoms. Researchers are excited about OptiLIGHT because it represents a novel, potentially more effective method for treating chalazion, with the hope of providing faster relief and better long-term outcomes.

What evidence suggests that OptiLIGHT might be an effective treatment for Chalazion?

Research has shown that OptiLIGHT, a type of light treatment, may help treat chalazion. One study found that 96.15% of patients noticed significant improvement after just one to three sessions. Another study reported that 73.91% of patients saw their chalazion reduce in size after the first treatment. Additionally, combining this light treatment with other methods achieved an 83.3% success rate. In this trial, participants in the study arm will receive active OptiLIGHT treatment, while those in the control arm will receive a sham treatment. These results suggest that OptiLIGHT could effectively reduce chalazion size and improve symptoms for many patients.12678
